In addition to the Chevron oil refinery, El Segundo is also home to the Hyperion sewage treatment plant and the El Segundo power plant. The El Segundo power plant is operated by the American energy company NRG. Toy manufacturer Mattel, DirecTV, medical company DaVita, IT services firm Computer Sciences Corporation, international Rectifier, Fresh and Easy, Big 5 Sporting Goods. Rapid7, Teledyne Controls, contractor Wyle Laboratories are also companies in El Segundo.

The city also enjoys being close to a variety of conveniences. The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is located immediately to the north of El Segundo. The hospitals Centinela Hospital Medical Center is 4 miles away in Inglewood and Providence Little Company of Mary is only 5 miles away. There are many colleges near El Segundo, the biggest being the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) which has over 37,000 full time enrolled students and is only 11 miles away.

El Segundo has many attractions, including the Dockweiler State Beach, Recreation Park and Library Park. The Old Downtown area has a number of nice restaurants and boutiques and other shops. The Automobile Driving Museum has an eclectic collection of old cars and is a must see for any car enthusiast. If you like hockey, then go to the Toyota Sports Center and watch the LA Kings practice, or put on skates yourself and skate during public session. Other attractions include The Lakes Golf Course, Old Town Music Hall, the Dog Park, and Skate Park.
