The city is borders Torrance to its west, which has many industries and big employers including Toyota, Honda, Robinson Helicopters, ExxonMobil and others.

In neighboring Torrance, there is small general aviation airport called Zamperini Field, and the The Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is only 14 miles away. The local hospital is Kaiser Permanente and there are also two major hospitals in Torrance: Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Little Company of Mary Hospital. Lomita is close to colleges as well, including the Los Angeles Harbor College about 2 miles in Wilmington with 2,812 full time enrolled students. It is also close to California State University Long Beach about 12 miles away with 26,754 full time enrolled students.

Lomita has many attractions, including the Lomita Railroad Museum, opened in 1966 as a small museum devoted to the steam engine period of Railroading. On display are a 1902 Baldwin Locomotive, a Southern Pacific tender, a 1910 Union Pacific caboose, and a Santa Fe caboose. The Museum also houses a full-size replica of a 1920s water tower that was constructed in 2000. The museum also incorporates a small public park, which accommodates a Union Pacific boxcar and a Union Oil tank car. Lomita is also close to the South Bay Galleria shopping center which also offers many retail and boutique shopping outlets including Macy's, Kohl's and Nordstrom, as well as a 16-screen AMC Theatres multiplex.

All of these features make Lomita a great city to buy or sell multifamily investment rental properties such as duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes and larger commercial apartment buildings. This vibrant, growing community has great attractions, a healthy work industry, and many renters.
